2016 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

Mitigation Actions Workshop

Rio Grande County

Date: Wednesday, November 2, 2016

Time:  3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Location: Rio Grande County Annex, Del Norte, CO

Meeting Purpose

The first meeting of the Rio Grande County Hazard Mitigation Planning Team was held on April 11, 2016 in Del Norte to discuss the project to update the Rio Grande County Hazard Mitigation Plan and to obtain input from Planning Team members. The purpose of the second and final meeting of the Planning Team is to update the group on progress to date and to identify and discuss potential hazard mitigation actions to include in the updated plan. At the meeting, the Planning Team will review and evaluate a range of specific mitigation actions and projects to reduce the impacts of the hazards identified in the risk assessment.

Examples of mitigation actions include building retrofits, stormwater/flood control projects, defensible spacing, changes in local ordinances, and other actions that reduce risk to existing buildings, infrastructure, and new development. County Planning Team members will weigh the pros and cons of proposed mitigation actions and rank their highest priority actions for implementation, based on their subject matter expertise.

The agenda for the meeting is included below along with the Mitigation Actions identified in the 2010 plan for Rio Grande County and the municipalities of Del Norte, Monte Vista and South Fork.
